Two years ago most CEO’s would aim to be profiled on the front of business magazines and beautiful people preferred to grace the cover of Vogue.  Today Bill Gates and Angelina Jolie would rather be on the cover of the Charitarian.   If the eighties were about ‘making it’, the nineties were about ‘faking it’ then the nougties will be about ‘shaking it’ out of your pockets and into good causes.  The credit-crisis caused a shift away from  conspicuous consumption towards competitive philanthropy.  The Charitarian charts this shift, incentivises responsible business and advises on sustainable development.  People will purchase the Charitarian today to find solutions to the problems of tomorrow.

Background
The English language version of the Charitarian is a cooperation between Charitarian China, ethicaledge, and CIC UK (Creative Innovation Centre).  The Charitarian is the only English language magazine originating in China providing a truly global perspective.  The Chinese language edition has run successfully for three years in China cultivating a circulation of over one million amongst senior Government officials, private Chinese businesses and multinational companies doing business in China.  Charity is a relatively new concept in China and one aim of the magazine is to encourage Chinese enterprises to act responsibly as they globalize.  The other primary purpose of the magazine is to help foreign companies improve their social responsibility programs in China.  The Chief Editor is Vice-Mayor Wang Liwei.  He is the sole proprietor of the private limited company incorporated in Hong Kong that runs the magazine.  Three features distinguish the Charitarian from the competition: its origin, objectivity and access.

Origin
Three years ago the Charitarian was established by independent Chinese media entrepreneur, Wang Liwei.  He incorporated it as a private Hong Kong company obtaining valuable and rare publishing licenses for Hong Kong and Mainland China.  Wang set up a distribution network that covers all continents with the primary focus on Mainland China.

Objectivity
All other English language Chinese media are Government owned e.g. Global Times.  The Charitarian distinguishes itself by having one sole Chinese private owner.  This provides greater scope for constructive criticism.

Access
At 60, new China strides to the centre of the world economic stage.  A growing global audience holds its breath in anticipation of China Act II.  The Charitarian has a backstage pass to proof the script and consult the protagonists.  Wang Liwei, as Chief Editor and vice-mayor of Guanxian city in Shandong, has the crucial access to Chinese Government that foreign media cannot emulate.  Thought leaders from Uruguay, Bangalore, Zimbabwe, London, Chicago and Dubai are drawn to contributing to the Charitarian, the global media of tomorrow.

Sponsorship Package
Current distribution to 0.25 million readers in Mainland China, UK, HK. Distribution is under negotiation in the U.S., India, and the Middle East.  If you are interested in sponsoring the Charitarian, please contact allison.johnson@ethicaledge.info for sponsorship details.
